Creative coding: tech skills can fuel a world of imagination
“The tools of technology are like the paintbrushes of the 21st century for young people,” says Jen Hesnan, TechSpace programme manager with Camara Education Ireland. “The sky is the limit,” she explains, “when it comes to technology and the creative careers and opportunities that can come from it.
TechSpace launches Creative Tech Festival in Lighthouse Cinema
TechSpace, a non-profit consortium which develops digital creativity in young people, is launching a Creative Tech Festival, the first of what will be an annual event to showcase the work of young people in TechSpaces nationally.

More than 300 of Ireland’s brightest teenagers showcased their work in science and technology at the ESB Creative Tech Fest.

When used safely and effectively, digital media and new technologies can be wonderful tools to ignite young people’s curiosity, creativity and confidence. It can enhance their social awareness and engagement as active citizens. It can also help to build their sense of agency and enable them to develop new knowledge and skills, and for their voices to be heard.

Computer Science @ Foróige TechSpace
CS @ Foróige TechSpace is a creative partnership between Foróige and Camara Education Ireland, powered by Google.org to bring Computer Science (CS) education training, activities, support, events, and professional qualifications to 350 youth workers and 3000 young people across the entire youth sector in Ireland. It brings together the best of youth, charity and corporate sectors to develop an innovative programme that empowers professional and voluntary Foróige youth workers to embed computer science and 21st Century skills in their work with young people.

Digital youth work provides a wonderful opportunity for youth workers to increase their effectiveness with young people. This guide was developed to assist newcomers to digital youth work to see its connection with youth work outcomes and to foster the development of a shared language and terminology for digital youth work.
Maker Activities in Youth Work
TECHNOLOGY IS PRESENT IN ALL areas of our lives. Young people have grown up in a technologized world and are often at the forefront of adopting the latest technologies. What follows is that rapid growth of technology also puts pressure on the field of youth work: how can we adapt to the ongoing march of technology and digitalisation and update our activities to reflect this new age? How can we best support the growth of young people in this digitalised society?
