What is a TechSpace?
And what happens there…
How it Works?
Each individual TechSpace site offers an informal (planned and structured) atmosphere, designed to keep young people engaged and active. An individual computer or laptop is made available to every young person to work on, however, members are also free to use their own devices, whether PC, Mac, Linux, tablet or mobile.
Each day the young people work on their own projects and get one-to-one assistance, guidance and support from the TechSpace Coordinator / Educator and volunteers. Young people work on both individual and group projects on themes chosen by the young people about issues that are important in their lives.
What are the Activities at a TechSpace?
Activites are designed based on the interests of the young people attending the ‘TechSpace’. All young people can participate in our global education program, Adobe Youth Voices program and / or participate in wider STEM activities (science, technology, engineering and maths) such as robotics and electronics.
Our trained educators are expert facilitators of youth development and learning. They support their program by recruiting volunteers with the expertise they need to run different activities and enhance what they can offer to their young people.
How Do Young People Join Up?
TechSpace is supporting this emerging network of young digital creators within youth organisations, projects and schools throughout Ireland.
Young people do not need prior experience or skills in using computers, however, an interest in technology and creative media is a good starting point.
A TechSpace is designed to be a safe environment in which young people get the opportunity to work with like minded people, make friends and have fun creating.
TechSpace @ Youth Projects
To participate in a ‘TechSpace’ a young person must first register with one of our partner organisations runring the program. Once registered all activities are free to the young person.
Our current youth network partners include Foróige, CrossCare, YMCA Ireland and youth projects funded by CDYSB.
TechSpace @ Schools
To participate at school a young person must attend one of the partner schools in which we are currently piloting our flagship program, Adobe Youth Voices (AYV).
A number of schools are piloting the AYV Program with transition year students and also to young people attending the Separated Children’s Education Service.
What is the Learning Culture?
Every young person feels welcome, included and respected.
Young people are exploring and creating rather than just consuming media and technology.
There is time made for each person to get one-to-one guidance from staff and volunteers.
Each site is supported to develop a volunteer mentor base so that there is a a high volunteer to young person ratio to allow for many abilities, individual interests and passions.
